I think their exiting the home rather than hitting the rooms in tandem and mobilizing the kids to exit the home first rather strange. There was no way they'd have time to double back. When the kids were young, my spouse and I had exit strategies and knew to hit the second floor to ensure the kids left before we did in case of emergencies. They were also instructed in ways to exit through the windows in case of emergency when they were small. I'd do perimeter checks sometimes if I decided there were noises I did not recognize as there had been a couple of incidents in our neighborhood.

Amazing how sloppy the investigation appears to have been in the case, especially with so many children missing. It makes me wonder why it would be so, who was behind it.

It was an enjoyable story.

I wonder how much of your fire plan comes from current fire survival information though, which has changed drastically since the 1940's.
