I was an extremely active baby who always wanted to be doing something. I do not think that I was particularly pleasant when I was bored or did not want to do whatever my parents felt I needed to or should.
I am sure that is true. I was talking about the first 6 months, when babies cannot talk and walk. How would your parents have described you at that time?
Wow, you are very prolific lately, which is great. This has given me some insight into games, as I am not a gamer, and it seems they are beyond my I signings and I am missing out.
Could psychopaths enjoy nightmare because they are completely removed from the negative emotions? And the surge of adrenaline feels welcoming, since emotions are usually so muted?
Nightmares are vividly realistic, disturbing dreams that rattle you awake from a deep sleep. They often set your heart pounding from fear. Nightmares tend to occur most often during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, when most dreaming takes place.
Nightmares.. I recall the last time I had what might be a nightmare. I had a burglary, the funny thing was the dogs had been trying to let me know something was up for about 3 days but I could not figure the message. Neighbors calling to let me know that the dogs were clearly upset, breaking out of the pen then sitting on the back steps etc.
Anyway the evening of the event, after filing police reports, repairing the damage to the door and all that I went to bed in a very annoyed mood.
I then dreamed that the back door was being battered in and the dogs were going nuts. I woke with a full on adrenaline charge, armed myself and cleared the house.
I will write this question here since it seems to belong in this topic:
do you think that Riddick (character from i.e. "Pitch Black", "The Chronicles of Riddick", games) could be good description of a psychopath?
Watching his actions and motives to me it seems he has some traits:
- he is mostly concerned about his survival (survival of others is often just byproduct and often when those others are usefull or willing to cooperate)
- he does not hesitate to kill but also does not kill everyone like a maniac - only those that are direct threat to him or those who rub him the wrong way.
- he has strong fight or flight mechanism.
- he can keep his head cool even in most dangerous situations.
- he does not seem to make strong connection with others (except with hayena like creature in one of the movies).
Would love to see your opinion Athena on this one (if you have watched any movie about this character).
I have never played the games, so I have no answer for you about them. He isn't human though, so it isn't something that would apply to him. He is from a warrior race, and that would likely account for all of what you list.
I'm curious where the deviations were on Fontaine. What wasn't psychopathic about him?
Haven't played BioShock but enjoyed the read. I have a gut feeling that Andrew Ryan is a narcissist as opposed to a psychopath but it's pure speculation on my part (could elaborate on that).
He had some responses to Jack when he was free from the mind control that seemed a bit more emotional than I would expect, but largely this was during the last battle, and boss dialogue for a battle can be challenging to write, so it may have just been because it was meant to be the final showdown than anything else.
When you get to that last stage he is so spliced up he more resembles a statue than a human. Perhaps his pursuit of power was a bit over the top, but again, there has to be a motivation for the final showdown. If he was reasonable, or you could negotiate with him, it wouldn't make for the best game.
I have been playing through Bioshock this evening, and haven't seen a great deal of deviations from him, but I have had it on mute so I could listen to a podcast, and subtleties can be lost through subtitles.
So now I wonder, is the potential to win a motivation for doing things, to a psychopath? Or is it that challenge of the game that is the motivation, or something else.
I still have stuck in my head the question"why would a psychopath kill"? It's perplexing.
In Fontaine's case he saw the value in Adam and what sort of influence it could have in the world. To him, that was wroth the war with Ryan. Actually, this is further explored n the second installment with another business tycoon, Augustus Sinclair. Sinclair could be another interesting possible psychopath.
Part of the attraction of Rapture was the removal of the rules, which may in turn attract many psychopathic individuals. Survival of the fittest, as it were.
EDIT- 'beyond my imaginings'. My spell correct requires too much vigilance.
Would a psychopath baby be the most non- fussiest baby in the world?

Noisy
Looks like babies will always be fussy, no matter the brain structure
It's their only way of communicating, so it stands to reason.

Fascinating, thanks for sharing
And
Oh boy, this new video about psychopaths is…
https://youtu.be/VpGxn39lVWU
Secondly, a question:
Do psychopaths experience nightmares?
Nightmare, as in a dream with heavy negative emotional content and scenarios.
Cheers
Nope. The dreams that I have that other people would consider nightmares tend to be the most fun for me.
Could psychopaths enjoy nightmare because they are completely removed from the negative emotions? And the surge of adrenaline feels welcoming, since emotions are usually so muted?
It wouldn't be a nightmare to me, but the dreams that I have had that other people would have been terrified of I have found interesting or fun.
My understanding of a nightmare is a dream that frightens or disturbs you. So I would think that psychopaths can't have nightmares.
From web MD...

I was disappointed that it was a dream
Omg ,roflmao! That video.... Reminded me of the sex Ed videos in Jr high. Too funny.

Thanks for spoiling my next gameplay athena 👿
I gave ample warning
I was just hunting for attention. Did not read everything this time. Have to play first 😄
I did my neurotypical bullshit, because you got plenty rational comments.
I like this 😊
You are a great author caring for your community so much.

Interesting
Well written. I'm not into games much but I can why you say they are possibly psychopaths.
