Well. I have abusive parents. My mother can't compute any logic anymore after nearly 40 years of poor sleep next to my father, who is emotionally enslaved to the feminine through his mother wound. So, she's full on narcissist because she just literally can't perceive my emotional body and healthy boundaries—treats those like attacks on her. And y father, is her flying monkey. So Christmas really sucked, because every year she throws a victim tantrum because she overwhelms herself with baking and cooking traditions... basically, withe her own obsessive anxieties. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for how they support me, but I'm the scapegoat for all their unresolved wounds, which I'm supposed to just bear like a obedient pet. And they don't understand these concepts in the slightest.
Perhaps you can do some things for yourself that have nothing to do with them. Make your favorite food and watch a movie without them, that sort of thing. If you can, create your own respite from the storm.
Your not alone. This year we chose to stay home and avoid all that drama. It was a nice day. Next year take a page from our book and get you some Grinch pj's, some non traditional snacks, put your phone on silent, and lock your door my friend. Best drama free Christmas since idk when. Let them know at Thanksgiving when they pull their crap so there's no surprise at Christmas. Prepare to be the bad guy, but that's OK. That's what the Grinch pj's are for. Buy yourself a present if you wish. Allow only people who don't vex you to come round. Let everyone else know WHY you won't be there. Maybe they do need to think on it, might help them be better. If not, don't worry about it. Have a nice day anyway. Rewrite the rules and throw your own Christmas your own way. It is incredibly freeing and healing. Sending you well wishes
You're not the boss of me.
Ha! True

That is very sound advice. There are a lot of people that should follow that and make holidays more enjoyable all the way around.
Thanks! I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Ded Moroz (Old Man Frost) is not something I expected to see here. Was it selected randomly, or do you know the movie?
Only the Mystery Science Theater rendition of it, but I do watch it most years. It's very funny
